His mission is to connect coffee farmers and roasters in a direct trade which benefits the coffee farming communities in many ways. One, that the ‘middleman’ is cut out, meaning that the farmers receive more money for their product and so the farming communities are able to build schools and improve the livelihoods of those who work at the farm as well as improve on their farming practices. Fazenda Sao Lucas is farmed by the sixth generation of coffee growers. Lucas Lancha de Oliveira opted to follow in his parents’ footsteps studying agriculture and becoming an agronomist. This experience proved to be of great value to the family business. Lucas also served in the Brazilian armed forces. In many ways Sao Lucas is a unique Coffee Farm. Lucas brought the dynamism of his military service and combined that with the knowledge gained from his studies which contributed greatly towards the unique chocolate, cocoa and milky qualities in his coffee, making it remarkable and distinct. To enhance the quality of the coffee Lucas’s knowledge was fundamental in the creation of home – made fertilizers. This Sao Lucas coffee is sweet and balanced with flavours of milk chocolate, cocoa and peanuts; it has a pleasant aftertaste, low acidity, good body and a clean finish. It’s important to order the right grind for the way you make your coffee: Whole beans – for those with a grinder. Coarse – for making in a cafetiere, use water just below boiling and leave for four minutes. Medium – for making in a drip machine. Fine – for espresso and aeropress. Delivery times for speciality coffee which may need to be roasted to order can be up to a week, we apologise but please bear this in mind when ordering.
