Kamwangi
This AB-grade, fully washed coffee comes from Kamwangi Coffee Factory, one of three washing stations managed by the New Ngariama Farmers Cooperative Society (FCS) in Kirinyaga County, Kenya’s renowned Central Highlands. The co-op works with around 1,500 smallholder farmers, growing classic Kenyan varieties including SL28, Ruiru 11, and Batian at altitudes reaching 1,800 metres above sea level. Kamwangi has been producing some of our favourite Kenyan coffees for several seasons now — a reflection of the consistency, care, and attention to detail shown by both the farmers and the factory team. Established as the co-op’s second washing station (after Kainamui), Kamwangi plays a key role in processing cherry from the surrounding area. As volumes have grown, the co-op has expanded further with the addition of a third factory, Kiamugumo, ensuring quality remains high as production increases. Kirinyaga sits on the southern slopes and foothills of Mount Kenya, where rich volcanic soils and an abundance of rivers provide ideal growing conditions. The cool daytime temperatures and cold nights at altitude slow cherry development, resulting in dense, hard beans known for their vibrant acidity, structure, and complexity. Carefully washed and processed, this coffee delivers the fruit-forward clarity and brightness that have made Kenyan coffees iconic — a standout example of why Kirinyaga continues to be one of the most exciting coffee regions in the world.
