Bird & Wild was founded in 2017 around a single certification that most roasters ignore: Bird Friendly, issued by the Smithsonian Migratory Bird Center, which requires 100% organic, shade-grown production on farms that maintain a qualifying tree canopy. The certification exists to protect migratory bird habitat, and it is the only one of its kind. Bird & Wild roasts exclusively to this standard and also holds Fairtrade and Organic certification. Six percent of sales goes directly to the RSPB. Since 2017, the company has donated over £75,000 to the charity. That specific, sustained giving record has earned it recognition from Ethical Consumer Magazine as Best Buy Coffee and a number one ranking in the Good Shopping Guide. The result is a roaster whose environmental credentials are measurable rather than stated.
