Across 21 communities, approximately 1,500 indigenous families cultivate and produce high-quality coffee, which serves as the foundation of their local economy and cultural heritage. For many years, this region was significantly affected by Colombia’s internal armed conflict. Its strategic location made it a contested corridor for various armed groups seeking territorial control. Despite these challenges, the communities of San Lorenzo have remained resilient, preserving their traditions and continuing to strengthen their coffee production as a sustainable path toward stability and development.
