A delicious, full flavoured Peruvian coffee with sweet caramel notes, a gently nutty character and a delicate stone fruit acidity. This coffee comes from Pichanaki, in the Junín region of Peru, an area widely regarded as one of the country’s finest coffee growing regions. Here, the Andes meet the jungle, creating ideal conditions for coffee, with fertile soils, abundant water and high altitudes. The coffee is grown between 1,100 and 1,700 metres above sea level, where varieties including Catuai, Catimor and Caturra thrive beneath the natural shade of the surrounding jungle. The ripe red cherries are selectively hand picked, then pulped, floated and fermented for 16 to 20 hours before being dried naturally on patios at the farms. The result is a carefully prepared coffee with excellent consistency and a beautifully balanced cup. This coffee is graded SHB EP, Strictly Hard Bean Extra Prime, a classification associated with coffees grown at higher altitudes and selected for larger, high quality beans. There is also a strong focus on supporting the smallholder farmers who produce this coffee. Since 2015, COINCA’s CCE programme has worked with Peruvian coffee growing families to improve productivity, quality and long term sustainability through better farming and processing practices. Today, the programme supports hundreds of farming families, helping to build a more sustainable future for Peru’s coffee communities.
