Nicoya Peninsula Blue Zone
In 2004, a team of National Geographic scientists identified five regions of the world where people live not only longer but with remarkable vitality. They called them the Blue Zones . Of these, Nicoya is the only Blue Zone to cultivate coffee in meaningful quantities. The coffee itself is rich in antioxidants and polyphenols - compounds increasingly associated with wellbeing and healthy ageing. Unlike the bright, high-acidity profiles of other Costa Rican regions, Nicoya’s cup is marked by a softer refined acidity balanced by a full, rounded body. Tasting notes include winey tropical fruit tones with dark chocolate, molasses, and caramel.
