Yoiner Mosquera's Gesha
LONDON COFFEE FESTIVAL FEATURE RELEASE: We had Marisela's Gesha and her Rosado with the last season of purchases from LaREB, and both were utterly delightful. Last year, she's passed on her Rosado plot at El Portal to her nephew Yoiner, as she focuses on higher value, smaller lots as she gets closer to retirement. In an interesting sense of the matter, we continued the purchasing relationship with the land instead of the producer, and we welcomed Yoiner to the Scenery lineup with open arms. His Rosado lot reminded us of an Ethiopian washed - and with this anoxic natty Gesha from his main farm, Belen, we were really reminded an Ethiopian natural. We think it's a stunner and supremely fun to taste alongside the Etiopes "Heirloom" lot and Megadu "Static Cherry". Brew Guide: Best Brewed with: Filter Lightest Roaster Influence: We slightly slowed this roast down, to keep it clean alongside a lower end temp - it's an insanely light roast and benefits from extra rest. Best Rested: 5+ weeks Filter: 64g/L, 92°C when fresh but when well rested you can go down to 88°C Espresso: 18g/50g/18s-22s - turbo shots & soup We’re tasting: Raspberry jam aromatics alongside lavender and honeysuckle. In the cup it's straight blueberry jam, with tropical notes of soursop, papaya and ripe guava, alongside lemon zest and a hint of coriander seed, super juicy and long. As it cools the florals become more defined, and the blueberry note persists hot to cold.
