Karana, Kintamani

Perched at 1,000–1,500 masl between the Batukaru and Agung volcanoes, Kintamani has earned Geographical Indication (GI) status , ensuring not only the authenticity of its coffee but the preservation of its traditional cultivation practices. The region’s climate is perfect for coffee cultivation - even, with average temperatures around 30°C (86°F), humidity around 85%, and monsoons that bring timely rain. However, it isn’t just the climate that sets Kintamani apart. It’s the culture and philosophy behind it! The Karana community is truly inspiring. It is a collective of 377 smallholders farming 477 hectares of land in the Kintamani highlands. Balinese producers in Kintamani are organized as a group called Subak Abian , led by the Hindu philosophy of Tri Hita Karana , which states that a fulfilled life is obtained through a good relationship with God, other people, and nature. The producers of Kintamani have practiced organic farming for over a century. Find out more on our blog ☕
