Bugisu AA Medium Roast

Uganda Bugisu AA: Speciality Single Origin Coffee Our Uganda Bugisu AA is a high-altitude single origin coffee grown on the slopes of Mount Elgon, a volcanic region on the border of Uganda and Kenya. This "AA" grade lot represents the highest quality tier of Ugandan coffee, defined by its large screen size and flavour consistency. Grown at elevations up to 2,600 metres, the cool climate and mineral-rich volcanic soil allow the cherries to mature slowly, developing the dense bean structure required for a complex speciality profile. This coffee is produced by smallholder farmers in the Bugisu region who use traditional "shamba" forest-gardening techniques. The trees - primarily of the Bourbon and SL28 varieties - grow under the natural shade of banana trees, which helps maintain soil moisture and biodiversity. After being hand-picked, the cherries undergo a fully washed process and are dried on raised beds. This processing method is essential for highlighting the clean, bright characteristics of East African coffees while ensuring the unique terroir of Eastern Uganda is preserved. In the cup, the Uganda Bugisu AA offers a robust, syrupy body paired with a refined winey acidity. It is a versatile choice for those seeking a balanced African coffee, featuring a flavour profile of dark stone fruits and a lingering cocoa finish. Whether brewed as a pour-over to highlight its clarity or as a rich espresso, this coffee showcases why the Bugisu region is the premier destination for speciality Arabica in Uganda.
