It has been seven years since we first met Alemayehu and started buying his coffee and it’s exciting to see the changes that he has made to the farm over this time. The changes made around a decade ago in Ethiopia to the internal and external regulations for trading coffee enabled more farmers to obtain export licenses and export directly to international buyers. These changes have led to increased income for the farmers and subsequently more investment in the farms and processing facilities. Alemayehu now produces one container (18,000kg) of natural processed coffee a year and has built a new warehouse close to the drying beds for dried cherry storage and conditioning before it is transported to Addis Ababa for dry milling and final grading. From there the coffee is exported with the help of Trabocca ( Trabocca.com ).
