Finca Filadelfia "Six generations. One obsession with coffee." At a Glance Origin Guatemala Region Antigua Valley Producer Dalton Family Farm Finca Filadelfia Variety Bourbon Villa Sarchi Process washed Altitude 1700 Roast Profile Filter In the Cup Cranberry Praline Brown Sugar A beautifully structured Guatemalan coffee with the balance, sweetness and clarity that Antigua is famous for. This is a coffee where the quality of the farming and the experience behind it really comes through in the cup. A Legacy Six Generations in the Making Finca Filadelfia is one of those farms where the history is almost as impressive as the coffee. The Dalton family's connection to the farm stretches back six generations. In 1864, Manuel Matheu made the decision to move from growing cochineal, a natural source of red dye, into coffee. After producing his first harvest, he travelled to London to sell the crop. His success was such that, on returning to Guatemala, he was commissioned by the President of Guatemala to teach other small farmers how to grow coffee. That decision helped shape the coffee-growing history of Antigua. Today, Finca Filadelfia continues to be operated by the fifth and sixth generations of the family, carrying forward more than 160 years of coffee-growing experience. The Farm Located on the northern side of the Antigua Valley, Finca Filadelfia benefits from an exceptional growing environment, with spectacular views across Antigua's three volcanoes. The farm has remained remarkably committed to coffee despite the pressures of urban expansion around Antigua. Quality is treated as a long-term commitment rather than a yearly target, with dedicated agronomy, careful cultivation and close control throughout the production process. The farm also operates its own roasting facility, giving the family an unusual level of control and understanding across the entire coffee chain. Why We Chose This Coffee Finca Filadelfia is particularly special to us because it represents something we value enormously at Gold Box: consistency built over generations. We've worked with the farm for many years, and it remains our longest-standing producer relationship. The 2024 harvest scored 87+, but the number isn't really what keeps us coming back. It's the fact that year after year, generation after generation, the family continues to care deeply about producing exceptional coffee. That's what makes Finca Filadelfia special. More Than a Farm There are little details that make Finca Filadelfia feel like much more than a coffee farm. The magnolia-lined roads are a reminder of the family's history, while Don Roberto's obvious enthusiasm for coffee makes it clear that this isn't simply a business being passed down through generations. It's a family legacy that is still very much alive. And after more than six generations, the obsession with quality hasn't gone anywhere.
