Producer Story Origins and History The Cauca region, once a FARC stronghold during Colombia's 53-year civil war, was heavily impacted by conflict and the cultivation of illicit crops. The farmers in this region faced displacement and significant disruptions due to the ongoing violence. Fortunately, a peace agreement between the rebels and the government was signed in 2016, allowing the region to rebuild and transform. The Power of Community Today, Cauca is Colombia's fourth-largest coffee-growing region, thanks to the tireless efforts of local farmers, their communities, and supportive organizations. The Asociación de Productores de Café del Oriente Caucano (ASORCAFÉ) was founded in 2003 in the town of Pedegral in Inza. This association, comprising 290 members, was established to help coffee producers organize and sell their coffees as specialty products. ASORCAFÉ also provides a framework for further education and social advancement, improving the economic and social conditions for its members and their families. Support and Collaboration ASORCAFÉ has been supported by Siruma Coffee, a Colombian specialty coffee exporter committed to social awareness, transparency, and adding value throughout the commercial chain. This partnership has been instrumental in promoting sustainable practices and ensuring fair compensation for the farmers. The 'Geeky' Stuff
