One of our absolute favourites, a superb, bold, very full bodied and even pungent coffee with low acidity so a smooth almost chocolate-like flavour. Notes of smoky, woody and spicy, so you can almost taste the volcanic ash this coffee was grown on £10.35/500g Brews very well indeed in a cafetière and filter coffee (as always, let the kettle cool for at least a minute after boiling and brew for around 4 minutes). As it is grown next to the largest volcanic lake in the world, Lake Toba, it has very pleasant earthy, ashy (volcanic!) notes that are a reminder of this coffee's provenance. Sumatra, home to the beautiful and endangered Sumatran tiger, has a fantastic reputation for its ability to grow superb coffee and this one is considered by many as one of the best available The growing altitude is 1000-1800 metres and produces between 15,000 and 18,000 tonnes of coffee each year. The seeds (AKA coffee beans!) are separated from their fruit (the coffee cherry) by a unique method known locally as Giling Basoh. This method helps impart a superb body and complex earthy aromatics, for which Indonesian coffees are justly famed. AVAILABILITY: In stock Simply select the bag sizes, number of bags and the grinds you require for your method of brewing. Your beans will be roasted and ground to order.
